Do you ever...Do you ever have that one picture, that you spend forever creating, only to have it go unnoticed?
Yeah. That's this one:
I spend well over 20 hours working on it, and it hasn't even made a dent. Not that I really care, but I don't understand how my crappy photography and doodles get more attention than something that I slaved over, and put my heart and soul into. i.e., this piece
got 200 favorites (the most I've gotten in a VERY long time) and it was a doodle I did in a restaurant. I just don't understand. What am I missing? I know I'm not the only one who has experienced this, SO...
What is one piece that you've created that you put your heat and soul into but has been overlooked?
Link it below, and I will create a feature for everyone's hard work!
Also, I realized that in my last journal entry I mentioned that I was going to Botswana. Well, I did, and it was the single most epic adventure of my life to date. I wrote a series of blog entries regarding

HUGE UPDATE: impossible2PossibleHello All!
I know that I am not the best at keeping my Journal up to date. To be quite frank, I don't write journals frivolously on here. It's hard enough finding time to write my lab reports between engineering labs, running, rowing, and work. I simply enjoy posting the art that I am able to do in my free time and supporting other artists via faves and what not.
I do, however, have a HUGE update.
I am going to Botswana.
To run. 50km (32 miles) a day.
I assume that many of my long-time followers know that I am a very avid long-distance runner. I applied in June to participate in a program that I've been wanting to participate in since 2009: impossible2Possible. It is a program where they select a handful of youth ambassadors (students between the ages of 17 and 21) to go abroad and run a marathon or more a day while carrying out some sort of project. I applied in June and was selected in July to go on their fall expedition to Botswana. There, I will be running with 7 ot
A Poll-ar ResponseIn response to the recent D.A. Poll:
"Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has ever known"- Oscar Wilde
True OR False?
I do consider art to be an intense mode of individualism, but to consider it MOST intense mode is like those "always" and "never" questions on multiple choice tests that always signified the statements were false. I believe that there is no one "most" intense mode, because the term "intense" can take on a different meaning for each person or each media of expression. Intense may mean that they put their whole heart and soul into their expression, or it may mean that the impact their expression has is intense, or it may refer to the feeling they acquire while doing whatever mode of expression they feel strongest in. There are numerous, uncountable ways that a person can express him/herself, and to name one of them the most intense of them all is biased. Someone may not be very indulgent in art, but more so in leadership; for them art would not be
DA Logo Shirt Design Contest!Hey guys, doing some self promoting here, but would LOVE if you voted for my shirts ... if you find them worthy, of course that is ...
New blog entry: http://run2live.webs.com/apps/blog http://run2live.webs.com/apps/blog/
It's too much work to update this journal. I'll just post a link to my blog when I up date it. You can read everything there life-related (or, more accurately, sport related) and I'll tack on the artsy-fartsy stuff here.
I've been working as a graphic designer through my University, and it's been quite rewarding and fun thus far. I will be unable to post any of the work I do for them on here, though, as it is the property of my employer. It has been taking up a lot of my creative energy / time, hence the slow down in postings, but now that classes are in full swing, I'll be sketching much more once again. And since the rowing season is in full swing, I'll be doing photography at the regattas and hopefully posting some worthy pics.
I'm Running 513 miles, guys. You heard me. I am going to run 513 miles (and for those of you who know I'm a big runner, this should come as no surprise ;D ). I've been training and planning for this since last December (2010). I will be starting on Wednesday, August 10th, and finishing on Saturday, August 20th. Your support would be really appreciated! Check out the event's page & follow on my running blog: http://www.run2live.webs.com/runtotech2011.htm
You all are awesome, and will see me back on DA soon
I might end up uploading some running pictures if I'm able to get any on the trip!
Why is DA having a lot of errors this summer?I'm starting to get fed up with DA's server. I haven't had any problems on any other website but DA. It happens when I click "reply" to messages in my inbox. They don't send, and then the page refreshes and then I have to rewrite what ever I wrote (which really sucks if it was a long message and then my rewritten message, I fear, comes off as frustration). And then there's submitting deviations ... why is it taking so much longer to upload them? Is it because they put that silly green loading bar at the bottom of the deviation? Sometimes, when it's uploading, it'll change the picture to a deviation I already uploaded - which makes no frigg'in sense! And then it just takes forever for the page to load after I've submitted it. And it doesn't save my changes / takes too long to respond (so it stops saving) when I'm managing deviations in my inbox.
DA, get yourself straightened out!

You CAN Do It Too! Commissions, Exposure, and...
Do you feel like no one cares about your artwork? That no matter how hard you try, you'll never improve? Well, I've been there before.
A little less than a year ago, I didn't even have 100 watchers. It was tough trying to find commissions, even though I priced them around 10 - 100 an hour. Sure, I had some wonderful people supporting me (thank you very much for that!), but when I looked at the thousands of diehard fans the "popular" artists had, I felt kinda useless. It seemed like even a thousand watchers, or just being able to earn minimum wage was impossible. Sometimes I wanted to cry from all the effort I put in. I kept drawing and drawing but barely improving. I was frustrated and felt useless. But instead of giving up, I pushed myself even harder, and by God's grace it's starting to work out for me.
I now have over 16,000 amazing people encouraging me, and I know it's only a matter of tim
No more excuses, it's time to improve your art! You’re probably well acquainted with the old proverb “practice makes perfect.” And while I don’t fully believe that perfection is attainable, because the very notion of perfection is somewhat subjective, getting better at anything requires both time and effort. I’m going be very blunt here; if you want to improve your artistic skill you need to actually practice.
My heart goes out to everyone here who is struggling to improve so don’t feel that I’m purposely singling you out here. However throughout my time on dA (and in real life) I’ve met artists begging for advice on how to quickly improve and sadly when I tell them to begin practicing the excuse is always ‘well, I don’t really have the time for that.’
And I ain’t got time for yo attitude.
You do have the time

Basic CSS Style GuideIntroduction
CSS is a style language used to define the style and formatting of web pages. It is used in conjunction with HTML.
If we think of HTML as the building blocks of the web then, essentially, CSS is the painter and decorator. Very simply, HTML defines the structure of the page and CSS defines the style.
What I'll be helping you with here is getting to grips with the basics of CSS. I'll be explaining how use CSS as well as providing a number of examples that you can use to style your own web pages and journals. All you need to do is copy/paste the code and replace the sample text with your own content. Along with the quick reference I've also written a brief glossary of terms and provided a list of useful links in case you wish to do some further reading.
A point of note is that while the information and examples I've given here apply to CSS use anywhere on the web, this guide itself is geared towards the use of CSS on deviantART. As such, and given that this h
JULY Challenge WATER last day to vote:icontransparentplz:
All works here
This is the new way to find our winner of our monthly challenge: instead using a Poll with the ten most voted of the period, we'll be using a blog to showcase the 20 MOST VOTED on this theme!
This means, or so I hope, more exposure for your pieces and galleries.
The idea is simple: each work has a number and all deviants have the opportunity to vote like if it was a poll...with the difference that you will choose not one but 3 favourites!
All deviants may vote, INCLUSIVE who is participating; the participants may vote for themselves and ask friends and watchers to vote; this blog may have publicity by all means and be submitted in groups.
The work with most votes wins 130 points;
the second place wins 80, the 3rd place wins 50 and the 4th wins 25 .
These prizes c

Freelance Paychecks are RealA few weeks back while thinking about this journal, I came across a forum for paid photojournalism jobs. I left it some time later in complete shock. There I found posting after posting about jobs paying nothing, next to nothing, or promising payment and then paychecks never arriving in the mail. I sat there, closed the laptop lid, and thought for a long while.
I know I’m fortunate to be paid for what I do. A big part of this is because I specialize in something very few photographers are doing at a professional level. But what most people don’t realize is that even at this level a large percentage of my workload involves pay negotiations. There are contracts that took months of negotiation. Some took weeks, or a single week, or several days, or a flurry of emails or texts in just a few minutes.
Every single one of those initially low-balled me; offering me starting contracts at 10-20% of my regular rate. And despite publications th
